Gov. Robert Blue warned legislators a special session could be set for July 29 to 31 if Congress fails to decide on OPA by July 27. He said action may be needed by Aug 1 if federal rent control does not pass, noting many landlords seek sharp rent hikes while evictions loom.
Secretary Paul Horak announced that the regular monthly meeting is canceled due to a picnic planned for August 4. A board of directors meeting will be held Monday evening at Wellman with a turkey dinner preceding.
Funeral services for Mrs Emma Wolfer were held yesterday at St James Catholic Church with Rev H J Corcoran in charge. Pallbearers Ed Lukavsky Dr J A Marie W J Marie Sr Claude McCoy Joe Wehr James Boyd. Burial followed in Elm Grove Cemetery.

In Mokelumne Hill California an abandoned suitcase exploded killing Richard Quierolo 40 and his eight year old son Davia and injuring three others. Richard Quierolo’s wife Dora is hospitalized for shock and Olive Moffitt and Jack Quierolo are among those who were stored. Sheriff Zwinge seeks FBI aid as the blast damages the post office building and telephone exchange.
Yesterday reached 96 degrees, the warmest day of the season in Washington. A low of 71 accompanied the heat, with mild rain and a 78 degree noon reading today.
Dr E E Grice missionary to Egypt supported by Washington United Presbyterian will preach at the union church service in Central Park on a sunny evening. Presiding will be Dr George Kerr with prayers by Dr Jame Pollock of Pittsburgh and scripture read by Rev Alfred Trenerry of the Baptist church. Special music will be a number.
Washington July 19 UPI Conferees failed to break a major stalemate over OPA price controls. House members rejected a Senate compromise to exempt foods while allowing ceiling restoration, insisting on complete decontrols on meat poultry dairy wheat tobacco and petroleum. Taft said no decontrols. Senate and House teams met separately to reassess, hoping to craft a new bill by tomorrow despite the setback.
A C-47 on a Topeka to Denver run crashed 106 miles from Goodland Kansas killing ten passengers and three crew. The transport reportedly was on a coast to coast flight refueling at a base in Massachusetts before continuing to California. Medical officers chaplains and guards were sent to the scene.
A quartet led by Boyd White with Stewart Hell, Jesse Simpsar and Tom Bay will perform with piano accompaniment by Mrs Boyd White. Carolyn Hamilton will sing with congregational participation and Helen Harvey will provide piano accompaniments.
London July 19 United Press Churchill suffered a setback as his bid to kill bread rationing failed 305 to 187 in the House of Commons. Food Minister Strachey warned prospects for winter were improving and suggested rationing might end sooner than expected.
Funeral services for Wilson D. Martin 71 a former Washington resident were held at Sherman s funeral home and Luray Mo with color guard from the American Legion. He died in Pennsylvania where he had moved to live with relatives after his wife s death. Thomas Martin of Moberly and a brother and sister survive him.
The funeral service for Mrs Jennie Al Alexander was conducted in Sherman with attendees paying respects and a brief procession noted by local observers. The obituary highlights her years of community involvement and family ties in the area.
The Salvation Army total in Washington county reaches 692 with 85 in West Chester and 216 in Kalona, while mail responses add 106 and city receipts near 245. A State theater movie short features Bette Davis praising the Salvation Army.
Wayne R. Considine, a Waterloo pilot, died when his light aircraft crashed in a cornfield near Oelwein. Witnesses reported he landed in a field then took off again and crashed within a mile. No cause for the crash could be determined.

Mrs J O Sexton leaves for St Paul Minnesota to visit her son and daughter in law Jim Sexton. Mrs C R VanGordon and children Martha and Cole depart Des Moines after house guests with Mr and Mrs T A Michels and Jamix.
The College in the District of Columbia receives congressional charter in 1821 establishing George Washington University. The act marks the formal creation of the institution and its naming origins.
A funeral service conducted by Rev C G McKnight of Columbus City honored Mrs Alexander. Burial followed at Elm Grove Cemetery with relatives serving as pallbearers.
A habeas corpus hearing is scheduled for Monday in Washington county district court over the detention of Raymond Bobb of Silvis Illinois. Judge J G Patterson will hear arguments on legality of his detention and possible release on the writ. Sheriff Putnam and parole supervisor K C Martell pressed for return to Illinois where Bobb was paroled in 1933 for burglary. Bobb claims not a fugitive from justice and seeks extradition inquiry. He is 54 years old and has worked on the Ainsworth Brighton railroad project as a caterpillar tractor operator.
Chicago reports lower prices as farmers ship large Friday loads of hogs and cattle. Trade shows 50 cent drop for top fed steers to 24 dollars. overall receipts reach about 43 000 hogs, 24 400 cattle, and 9 000 sheep across 12 principal stockyards.

Darrell Loukaitis, 18, drowned near here while wading with his 15 year old brother Dale. The youth could not swim and fell into a deep hole. Glenn Gustafson, an ex marine of Actir, dived 31 minutes to recover the body in ten feet of water.
