Ford to Hold Public Talks With UAW This Summer
Ford Motor Co plans another round of public meetings with the United Auto Workers as part of a hard line stance in contract talks. Labor chief Manton M. Cummings says two to three more sessions are on the schedule, following Henry Ford II’s warning that the firm will risk a strike rather than accept an unrealistic settlement. Ford’s latest demands include a claim that UAW actions during the current contract have driven walkouts to alter non strikeable conditions. The present contract allows authorized strikes over production standards health and safety and new job rates. Ken Bannon of the UAW Ford department questions the company’s focus on authorized strikes.
