In Clinton Iowa vicinity last week Capt Harry McBride's gas tug Effie May delivered a 40 000 foot log raft from near Sabula to a river island opposite Clinton. The timber raft was the largest seen on the upper Mississippi since the 1890s sawmill era.

Blind Youth Sees Trip by Pilot Eyes Over Des Moines

Strikers To Meet Tonight In Minneapolis Talks
Governor Harold Stassen announced after a meeting with six WPA strike leaders and state administrator Linus Glotzbach that the city would fill the Minneapolis quota and workers could return to jobs if the plan is approved from Washington. The strike sparked rioting, resulting in two deaths and injuries to over twenty people as Minneapolis projects remained closed pending orderly operation.

John Franklin Kurtz 72 died this morning at his home 305 South Avenue C after a long illness from a heart condition. He operated Kurtz Market on South Town avenue with his son Botee and had lived in Washington since 1996. Funeral services will be at 2:20 p.m. tomorrow at his home conducted by Dr. Arthur Atack. interment in Elm Grove. He was born June 39, 1867, near Wayland in Henry county and married Dora Bolding on March 22, 1893.

The incorporators passed a resolution giving authority in lease with the state use of the armory by the TR and forwarded to Maines for approval.
