Three Iowa State University professors including Richard Smith Richard Vetter and John Miranowski will use an $82 475 budget to test making a 320 acre farm energy self sufficient via manure and crop residues. The project aims to produce methane gas to power farm needs reducing dependence on expensive fuels and possibly meet all internal energy demand.

James W. Walling was appointed Highland Community School District superintendent, replacing R. D. Gustafson. The 36 year old moves from Kellerton Grand Valley School District where he led since 1973.
