Evelyn Stout won the seventh annual Crawfordsville Pony Show beauty contest tying to represent Crawfordsville at the Washington County Fair and then Miss Iowa contest. Six contestants included Shari Hamil Karen Rhea Carolyn Kauffman and Mary Lowe with Carol Thomas as alternate. event drew about 689 paid admissions and featured 100 ponies in 13 classes sponsored by the Lions Club with prize money trophies and ribbons.

Iowan Admits Colorado Killing Suspect Surrenders in Bond
Delmar Dean Spooner, 25, of Storm Lake Iowa, who eluded a 225 member posse for two days, surrendered Friday in Moffat County Jail Colorado, charged with murder. Spooner was captured near Bond after officers said he killed two lawmen and wounded two more in multiple gun battles.

Nellie Jones of Ainsworth Dies at 81 in Iowa City
Nellie Pearson Jones 81 of Ainsworth died at 1 a.m. July 15 1961 at a daughter's home in Iowa City. She lived in Ainsworth since 1939 and later moved to Iowa City. Funeral 2 p.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home with Rev William Simbro. burial in Ainsworth Cemetery. She was the widow of John C. Jones with long ties to the local bank and farms and formerly taught in local schools. Survivors include Homer of Webster Groves Mo a daughter Mrs David Lo Armstrong Iowa City four grandchildren and four siblings all of Ainsworth.

New Sharon Man Dies In Rural Collision
An Iowa rural collision on highway 163 near Oskaloosa Friday killed 53 year old Harry Boughton of New Sharon and injured his wife and Francis Aro. Mrs Boughton suffered head injuries and a fractured leg while Argo was hurt. all were taken to Mahaska Hospital.

NATO Approves Western Notes on Berlin Crisis
In Paris the NATO permanent council approved the U S British and French notes to the Soviet Union in reply to Khrushchev's Berlin conference overture. The Western texts are to be sent to Moscow Monday. The meeting ran about two hours with Dirk Strikker arriving from Britain for the session. Khrushchev's Vienna memorandum urged a conference of WWII allies and a neutralized West Berlin with minimal four power troops and separate peace treaties for East and West Germany.

Three Women Hurt When Car Leaves Road Near Williamsburg
Edith Woodrow 61 of Ottumwa drove the car that slid off a curve two miles east of Williamsburg. Eunice Williams 59 of Ottumwa and Dorothy Phillips 52 of Riverside were injured. All were taken to Marengo Memorial Hospital with back injuries, leg lacerations, internal injuries, and a dislocated shoulder. The crash occurred shortly before noon at the hazardous county road curve also linked to a recent teen crash.
