Dr McClean of Washington Iowa unveils a rifle claim to impress military authorities worldwide. A block of yellow pine records a 30 caliber ball at 600 yards piercing sixty seven inches. The weapon loads and fires sixty rounds a minute. Ten men with this gun could outpace a full regiment with old army rifles. Centerville Citizen reports. A burglar attempt at Klein store near the square woke residents after midnight as a glass crash was heard by Nightwatch Ford and others. The side door was damaged and a head-sized hole smashed through the door but no culprit was found. Reports described a man seen fleeing toward South Lowast.
Des Moines reports Governor Drake slipped on wet steps at the north capitol entrance and suffered likely severe injuries. State Treasurer Herriott aided him as he was carried inside, with the old hip wound from a rebel bullet complicating the injury. Drake remained in his private office to handle business despite pain.
James Bickford foreman of the sewer gang was injured on East Washington street near Isaac Wagner's residence when a tile corner cut the back of his right hand. The artery was nicked and the wound bled heavily before a physician sewed it. No serious damage is expected. his hand remains sore.
