Iowa Delegation Faces Seating Shortage At Democratic Convention
The Iowa delegation to the Democratic National Convention arrived with seats for only 24 of 32 delegates, forcing most to sit in the alternate section. Guy Gillette did not attend, sending a telegram that he would remain in Iowa to campaign against Senator George Wilson. Carroll Switzer was named delegation chairman with Harry J. Strong filling Gillette’s voting seat.
