A county fair pet parade for youths is planned for Wednesday August 3 at 6 p.m. in Washington County. Cindy Marek and Mike Beranek coordinate the event with three classes dogs cats and miscellaneous. Town Players Ready with Summer Show at Kalona Center

Six Iowans Die In Plane Crashes Alaska Tour
Royal Canadian forces recovered eight bodies from the bush after two Iowa based single engine planes crashed in heavy rain on an International Flying Farmers Alaska tour. Victims include Roy and Genevieve Schultz Castalia and George and Shirley Knudson Decorah, plus Wayne Margaret and Raymond and Marie Smith of Evansdale Ellensburg. The flights departed Dawson Creek Monday en route to Fort Nelson BC. rescuers said both planes broke on impact and the crews died instantly.

Grants to help pay fuel bills in Southeast Iowa
