The Friendly Families Club and Evening Circle gathered in Ainsworth with twelve members and a former member present. Plans for the August picnic at Marr Park on the 8th were set, a grocery shower for Sheryl Swenson announced, and September plans discussed. Community events included visits, reunions, and a tribute of sympathy to Mrs. Lloyd Edwards at Columbus Junction.

Louisa County Fair in Columbus Junction will stage an accredited Class A Stockhorse Show on Saturday July 28 at 10 am in front of the Grandstand. Twenty three classes with ribbons and cash prizes from 2 to 25 dollars. Western Pony Pleasure restricted to Louisa County residents under 15. Iowa Girl's Barrel Racers featured. Judge Bill Burton of West Branch. Admission 1.09 for adults. under 12 free.

Lightning hits tree on Dutch Creek farm
A July 4 thunderstorm swept Dutch Creek farm area causing a large cottonwood to catch fire on Orville Griggs north face after fierce lightning and heavy rains. Residents reported about 3.8 inches in their area with 16 inches measured elsewhere. a fire was spotted from a distance but no structure damage was confirmed.
