Iowa Gov Ray signs campaign disclosure after grace period ends
DES MOINES UPI state Democratic Chairman Clif Larson criticized Gov Robert D Ray for signing the campaign disclosure bill after July 1 creating a six week grace period for big Republican contributors to hide secret money. He urged full disclosure for July 1 to Aug 15 and called for both parties to restore public trust. The law ends spending limits for most politicians, tightens accounting, and requires names of large contributors to be released.

Judge blocks 2.2 million aid to private schools in Iowa
A U S district judge issued a 10 day restraint on 2.2 million dollars in aid to private and parochial students under Iowa's auxiliary services law. The order stops spending until a July 20 hearing, as the Iowa Civil Liberties Union Foundation and others challenge the program as unconstitutional. The suit argues the law uses state funds to support religious training. Defendants include Gov. Ray and several school districts.
