A columnist critiques the idea of abolishing childhood as journalism and TV culture push adolescence toward adulthood. He cites Dick Clark and Donahue, questions exposing kids to adult topics, and laments selective reporting by a local paper over youth crime. He muses on the paradox of education and protection in modern adolescence.
