New London Infant Drowns In Bathtub At Home
A month old baby girl, Karla Colby, drowned in a tub of water at her parents home after her mother left to answer a doorbell and phone that rang at the same time. The child was dead when Mrs Colby returned, authorities said. Richland hosts a July 11 homecoming with a Kiddie parade, donkey ball, variety show, square dance, and Vega car prize, including evening entertainment by a men’s quartet.

Ballon Championships Nears With Strong Entry Surge
Officials say registrations for the National Hot Air Balloon Championships at Simpson College in Indianola nearly tripled this year with more than 160 balloonists entered for the August 28 event. The previous year saw 62 pilots. among the entrants 33 are from the six-state area including 11 from Iowa and 12 from Illinois. Also, a fatal crash near What Cheer left 16-year-old William Duncan dead after his motorcycle collided with a car last Tuesday.

Two Wayland youths injured in W Washington crash
Two youths from Wayland were injured Saturday at 11 45 pm when their car left the Wayland Washington road one mile south of Washington and overturned after losing control on a curve near the Bob Ross residence. Curtis Rex Swan 18 Route 5 Mt. Pleasant suffered severe facial lacerations and was hospitalized in Iowa City after initial treatment in Washington. Marvin Carl Stauffer 17 Route 2 Wayland received bruises and chest injuries and was taken to Washington County Hospital.
