Mrs Mildred Rheuport aged 35 died when a tractor she was plowing corn with rolled into a 10 foot ditch on the Rheuport farm four miles west of Lacona. Neighbors Dort Shaver and Floyd Cage freed her. she lived about 30 minutes. Her husband Dr T Rheuport works as a foreman in Des Moines and was away at the time.

Chisel slips injures youth in Wayland workshop
Wayland 22 year old Daryl Wittmer cut the large artery in his left wrist when a chisel glanced off while he was chiseling a rivet in a machine shop. A local doctor was in Iowa City so Wittmer was taken to Washington for treatment and four stitches were used to close the wound.
