Near 500 Road Deaths Iowa Death Toll Is Ten
United Press reports a heavy Independence weekend toll with at least 627 lives lost nationwide in 43 states. Traffic accidents caused 403 deaths while 224 deaths came from fireworks drownings airplane crashes and other incidents. The National Safety Council predicts about 475 traffic deaths final tally. Only five deaths were due to fireworks.

Iowa Holiday Accident Toll Reaches Ten
During the three day Independence Day holiday a weekend toll rose to ten with five killed in automobile crashes two drowned two struck by trains and one electrocuted. Ronald J Porter 17 of Nichols died instantly in a rural auto collision near Nichols. two seriously injured. Police continued to search the Missouri River for the bodies of Mrs Morrison Sales and her eight year old son Robert drowned near a river fishing camp eight miles north of Crescent.

William Saville 70 died at 10 30 last night at the county hospital after a ten day illness. Funeral services set for two o clock Tuesday at L A Jones funeral home with Rev M C Carstensen of Mt Pleasant officiating. Burial in Elm Grove cemetery. He was born Feb 1 1871 in Xenia Ohio and moved to Washington from Ohio at age seven. He married Dec 5 1895 to Sarah Gamon.
