Cedar Rapids report credits a stubborn gate latch with saving three travelers during a Mount Pleasant cyclone. D A Whittaker and his wife, plus Mrs W B Fleming of Cedar Rapids, were stormbound seeking shelter at a farm. Whittaker struggled with the latch as a tree collapsed onto his car radiator and the house was nearly swept away. The farmer and family were safe in a cellar and the three motorists escaped unharmed.

Work starts behind the post office and runs to South Avenue D, then west to North Avenue, and north along Avenue F to West Third Street.
