Special to Toe Evening Journal reports thunder showers in Iowa with cooler temperatures. Central and western sections see cooler conditions tonight and Friday.
Delegates from seventy-one Iowa counties declare they reject the Popocrats platform and back a strong state ticket. Judge Cliggett of Mason City is named for Governor with S J Mallory, Judge Babb, Peter A Dey, and J B Knoepfler also on the lineup. Chairman French urges full support to unite sound money Democrats behind the ticket.
Yesterday's heat prompted six workers to leave when overcome on the city sewer project. Names include C Bickford Richard Wheelan Wm Culbertson Mike Gallagher Dick Cane and A Rawson. Six were treated. one man was notably ill but all remained non fatal as work proceeds under Smith and Bickford supervision with Roy Davis directing brick work. The crew expects night progress across East Washington Street to restore travel on the avenue.
Yesterday near Chilcote and Cook's drug store a heated argument erupted between a man and a woman over remarks about her daughter. The woman warned she would kill on sight if she learns it was him, drawing a small crowd as tempers cooled.
The Court of Honor in the Nourishing condition of this city has furnished new rooms on the north side of the square in the Norton Block and will open them tonight for the first time by entertaining friends. Miss Nettie Anderson hosted a tea at six last evening at her Main Street home with several young ladies attending. Guests of honor included Miss Jennie Tate of New York and Miss Jennie Welch of Minden Nebraska.
