Death of Boy 16 Said Apparently Accidental
VAIL sheriff said Franklin Maynard age 16 was found dead with a bullet in his temple. He was hunting when his gun discharged. death considered accidental. In Des Moines Senator I G Chrystal headed to Washington to argue saving two of Iowa's CCC camps at Oskaloosa and Indianola scheduled to disband July 15. Mayor N P Gordon of Indianola may draw 300 dollars but not fees as justice of the peace per an attorney general ruling.

Creston Man Held in Knife Assault Case
James Tillman of Creston is jailed on $500 bond after Weber Purdy filed an assault charge. Purdy says Tillman struck her with a knife, cutting a deep gash in the thigh during a conversation. Tillman claims the injury was accidental and that the knife was in his hand when the incident occurred.

City pays for sand dumped in river at Ellis Park

Charred Body of Man Found Near Creve Coeur
In St Louis County near Creve Coeur a charred male body was discovered in a wooded area. The victim showed a battered face and missing ears with a small forearm wound resembling a bullet hole. Deputy Sheriff Arnold William estimated death about three days earlier. A quart bottle of inflammable liquid lay beside the body.

City Tax Budget Shows a Reduction
At a regular city council meeting yesterday evening the council adopted the annual tax budget estimate and set August 2 at 7 30 for taxpayers to be heard for or against the estimates of expenditures listed. The total amount to be raised by taxation is 46 049, which is 3 258 less than last year. The full budget estimate appears elsewhere in the Journal today detailing funds and amounts.
Miller Truck Damaged by Fire on Rural Highway
Last night Harvey Meek drove the Farmers Mutual truck to the northeast edge of town where John Miller's truck caught fire. The cab burned largely, straw in the load was damaged, but the engine remained intact and repairable. Firemen used equipment to extinguish the blaze near the city limits.

Erection of 35 Foot Park Flag Pole Completed
Supt Perry Jordan of the water and light plant completed a new 35 foot metal flag pole south of the band stand in Central park. The pole will carry the horns of the Fred Downing public address system and may be tested at tonight's Municipal band concert for improved broadcasting from the elevated site. The pole is finished with aluminum paint and topped by a large ball.
