Chicago stockyards saw heavy Friday arrivals with hog prices down one to one and a quarter dollars, top hogs at 15.50 to 16, while cattle topped at 22.25. Other western markets reported higher tops as farmers rush to market amid possible OPA price changes.
Rev Thomas Polk of the Christian church will preach at the Sunday evening union service in Central Law with the theme The of Life. If rain keeps them outdoors it moves to the Baptist church. Prayers will be offered by Rev Walter Smith and Rev Alfred Trenerry. Rev Milo J Phillips reads the Scripture and Mr Smith gives the Benediction. Poud White directs congregational singing with Mrs White on piano. Special music by Ellen Mary and Marilyn Caldwell. Service set for 7 30 with note to adjust time from eight to seven thirty for daylight.

Funeral at Sherman's Sunday at 2 pm with Rev. Alfred Trenerry of the Baptist church officiating. Burial in Wellman cemetery. She leaves husband Murray L. Moore and children Murray L. Goodwin Earl Gilbert Ray Lyle and Alice Moore plus siblings Newt Bell S G Bell Virgo Bell Joe Bell Mrs Virgil Lewis and Mrs Omer Lemley. One sister, Mrs Philip Shaw, is deceased.

United Press reports holiday tolls rose on the Fourth of July weekend. Traffic deaths reached 69 with 54 drowned and five fireworks deaths. Ohio led with 18 fatalities, Michigan and California each 17, Pennsylvania 10, Texas seven, and several states five.
A rodeo performance is planned for this evening at eight o'clock replacing an earlier no show. Only one show will be held on Saturday in the evening with the afternoon performance omitted. Large crowds attend and express satisfaction with the events.
In 1938 a 17 year old set a trans continental flight in an Aeronea K 837 horsepower light plane. Lt Ray Goudey now 25 with about 65000 flying hours will appear July 7 at Midland Air Field with the Flying Tigers air circus. During the war he was a navy lieutenant and test pilot and has made 130 cross country trips ferrying or testing navy fighters.

Col Lester G Orcutt former commander of the 124th observation squadron and now director of the Iowa Aeronautics commission will command the air arm of the Iowa National Guard. Units will be in Des Moines and Sioux City with 98 officers and 357 enlisted in Des Moines and 7 officers and 448 enlisted in Sioux City. Recruiting offices to open. meeting July 9 at the Ar vonne Army post auditorium to start the drive. Governor Blue appointments require War Department confirmation.
The Fourth of July in Washington was quiet with family picnics and local observances. No serious accidents reported as crowds attended the armory field rodeo sponsored by the Legion, with performances planned again for Saturday.

Main issue is Wolfer road crossing with an overhead bridge and proposed highway curve relocation to shorten the bridge. County resists the relocation while rail signals and two unused roads may be vacated. Chubby Cox, 13, Fort Dodge, posted the 950 yard Derby time of 33.9 seconds to claim the Iowa title. Pat Kelleher, 15, won Des Moines city honors in 13.8 seconds, the day's best. Both advance to Akron for the All-American Derby. Melvin Dehani, 11, Monroe, finished runner up but suffered crashes injuring spectators and himself.

The fight over the OPA extension bill widened as Republicans pressed to delay a $106,000,000 appropriation for the agency's current fiscal year. Senate Democratic leader Barkley urged immediate floor action while Taft sought delay until Monday, and Porter cautioned that the bill contains features he hopes to remove before approval.
John S. Eicher, 85, died at 12:15 today at his son Jesse Eicher’s home in Wayland. Funeral services are set for Sunday at Stacy Funeral Home and 2 PM at Wayland Mennonite Church.
Raymond Bobb, a railway construction worker, faced a justice court hearing this afternoon on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent after allegedly wrecking a pickup truck owned by Oral Long on the creek bridge on Coppock road south of town.
Ezra D. Huntley known as Zeke of Riverside died at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines after years of declining health. A World War I veteran, he served with Cavalry Troop B and was honorably discharged in 1919. He is survived by a nephew Robert Nicola and a niece Minnie Norgang. his parents and three siblings preceded him in death. Funeral arrangements by Marner and Adams were not completed.
