Bradley Dean Ankerstar of Sibley at age two has a private play yard to house telephone. He talks often with his mother while his father manages a telephone company.
Bloomfield reports Darvin Musselman and Ernest Mooney of Ottumwa were fined $5 by Justice Clyde Spurgeon for overloading a boat at Lake Wapello. The boat hire limits permit only three persons per boat.
Paul A. Johnson Crawford county agent says recent heavy rains in Crawford county failed to kill grasshoppers, which threaten extensive crop damage in this vicinity.
OSKALOOSA John Nelson aged 88 died from chest injuries after a horse knocked him down while he repaired a scale at his farm. He was working in the scale pit when the animal struck. A son and daughter survive.

A couple left a two thirds full cigar box of pennies as a gratuity for Rev. Wir Kent after a ceremony at the Little Brown Church in the Vale near Nashua. Mrs Kent counted 500 pennies, though the pastor was too busy to verify.
Des Moines attorney Ralph Heninger reported thefts at his new residence site. Early in the week 109 specially constructed bricks for his fireplace were stolen. A few days later he said all but a few of the two and a half tons of brick for the foundation were missing.

Curtis L. McKinnon of New London former state representative from Henry county was elected chairman of the state highway commission. He succeeds Ollie J. Ditto of Sibley who left the post after Governor Kraschel did not reappoint him.

Two Ottumwa men Fred James La Rue and Charles W. Wheatley confessed to stealing goods from John Condon and a Shell truck after hiding loot near the Associates Presbyterian church area. They described driving La Rue’s car from a shack near Oakville to Washington, then catching a freight train to Ottumwa followed by arrest and signed confessions aided by state agents. They face district court hearings on larceny or burglary charges.

Funeral services for James A. Embree Civil War veteran will be held tomorrow afternoon at two in the Keota Methodist church. A Blythen Sheets Post American Legion will lead the military funeral and burial will be in the Keota cemetery.
Des Moines July 1 Governor Kraschel asked Secretary Wallace to take steps to allow Iowa to qualify for 658000 dollars annually in federal cash for farm to market road construction. He said it depends on whether Wallace will issue a temporary ruling to fit Iowa’s case.

A Newton church of the Foursquare gospel hosted a revival last evening with delegates and Pastor Rev. Daniel W. Buser leading the Newton church. Evangelist Isabelle R. Hall spoke on the subject Satan Met a Lady and the event was greatly enjoyed by all. A special program is planned.

Barley and rye harvests underway, oats headed, rust observed in wheat, grasshoppers and worms active, hay and pastures favorable with rain needed in southwestern counties. Early cherries market present.
Keota July 1 J B Mane fee and John L Morris suffered minor injuries when their pickup went into a ditch returning from a movie in Washington. Mane fee was taken to Washington county hospital with bruises a back injury and a hand injury. The truck was badly demolished.
Mr and Mrs Charles Carlson of Winfield visited the town yesterday afternoon to shop. The outing highlights a local couple from Winfield as they spent time downtown.
A local service tonight features a speaker addressing the theme Seveen Appearings of Christ. Attendees will hear reflections on biblical appearances and their meaning for faith at the community church.
A gang stole $197.02 from the Sands drug store safe after a night of car thefts in Washington county. The crime began with the Moore car theft and ended with the Flynn car theft near Riverside as investigators trace two to three men using nitro to blast the safe.
Fifty-three freight cars plunged from an embankment in Mayryray West Virginia. A house was crushed by the derailment and a fire threatened the town. Train crew members were killed and a brakeman suffered a broken back.
