Sheriff's deputies investigated a Tuesday theft at the Washington Sale Barn on old highway 92 west of Washington. An attached freezer was pried open and a quantity of hamburger was reported missing.
Iowa State Fire Marshal Wilbur Johnson urges ban on above ground storage tanks in cities saying they create spill and fire risks. He notes many people use 200 to 300 gallon tanks amid energy concerns. Farms may have tanks only if kept 40 feet from any building.
The Iowa House on a 54 to 34 vote shot down Rep. Laverne Schroeder's amendment to add mourning doves to the list of game birds under the Conservation Commission. The action effectively ends the bill for this session, leaving the commission to set hunting seasons.
