UN helicopter dispatched to rescue five missionaries

World War I Vets Elect New Officers in Keota Meeting
Howard Altenbernd of rural Keota was elected commander of the Veterans of World War I Barracks 840 at the Legion Hall meeting. County officers include Clifford Connelly as first vice commander Geo Baker as second vice commander Neil Burton finance officer and others. The group, started seven years ago in Washington County, now totals over 100 members along with a ladies auxiliary. A potluck supper opened the evening and the next meeting is February 25.

Saturn-1 launches heaviest satellite to orbit
The 37 700 pound satellite rode skyward atop Saturn-1 from Cape Kennedy. The 16 story rocket, powered by eight engines, lifted off at 10 25 a m CST and reached orbit after a 10 minute 32 second flight. The second stage separated smoothly and the satellite accelerated to about 16 600 miles per hour, with orbit planned between 160 and 400 miles up.

Stage Band Festival at Armory Saturday

The Parade of Bands at 7:30 p.m. tops the event, with two band stands and continuous music for the public, plus dancing and spirited applause.

James Kime Body Found Near Richland Farm
The body of 74 year old James Floyd Kime was found beside his auto fallen over an embankment near a bridge about four miles south of Richland. He was believed to be on his way to neighbor Kenneth Keck’s farm when found by Tom Hoskins. Cause of death unknown, but Kime had a heart condition.
