Fire Tears Through Old Railroad Street House

A fire damaged Mrs. Mack’s house on Railroad Street near the Water Works. Water and smoke ruined the roof while two families, the Culbertson and Woods households, watched the blaze. Neighbors alerted the firemen who fought it with hoses and a bucket brigade. origin unclear possibly a defective flue or spark. Three to four hundred dollars in damage expected. no major injuries reported.

Social Evening At Miss Fulton’s With Novel Party Games

The Christian Union of the First United Presbyterian church enjoyed a social at Miss Mame Fulton’s on Lighton street. A two room division for ladies and gentlemen led to a parlor football game and a reading of partner descriptions. Local Society Holds Weekly Meeting With Program Of Recitations and Music

The society, formed months ago, meets weekly in members homes for self improvement and social enjoyment. Last night it gathered at Mr and Mrs F M McElhinny on East Main Street. The program featured declamations, instrumental and vocal music, followed by games, stories, and conundrums, with all declaimers delivering their pieces well.

Progressive crokinole party at Welch home yields honors

At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sheira Welch last evening a crokinole party was hosted by neighbors who formed a regular club to meet each Thursday. Mesdames St. Clair Lewis and Ross won the honors while participants included Chas Brown Dowell Lewis Kellar Ross. Casey Bros. will move Monday February 1 across the street.
