Mrs Shafer 54 Dies After Illness at County Hospital
Dorothy Shafer 54 died Sunday after three weeks of serious illness at the county hospital. She lived on West Tyler Street and will be buried at Kim Grove Cemetery after services at Sherman’s Funeral Home in Sherman with Rev. W. J. Stevens of Nevada Iowa presiding. She was born December 10 1891 in Memphis Missouri and married J. W. Shafer in 1907. Surviving are children Marion Ward Warren Mrs Dale York Mrs Oral York Mrs Ray Musgrove Mrs Edwin Miller and Ross Shafer plus siblings in Casper Ottumwa Missouri Fairfield and St. Joseph and a half brother.

Don Stutsman plans to begin hatching turkey eggs at the new Stutsman turkey packing plant this week. Four incubators with 10 000 egg capacity each will start tests and place thousands of eggs into hatching toward full operation in the fall. Full packing won’t start until fall. plant is nearly complete with equipment ready to process up to 3000 birds daily once season opens.

Ric Welder died while being transported to a Norfolk hospital. He had lived in Wellman until 1987, then Davenport for welding, later moving to St. Louis where he married Marie Barks in June 1940. They relocated to Norfolk in 1941. Surviving are his wife, mother Amelia Emde, twin brother Carl T. Emde, sister Mrs. Cecil Davidson of Wellman, brother Otto J. Thomas Simpson aged 95 died this morning at his home one mile north of Washington after a week of illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 PM at L A Jones Funeral Home with Dr George Kerr, United Presbyterian Church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery Native Scotland. Simpson, born April 16, 1850 in Aberdeenshire, immigrated to America in 19 and settled near Washington in 1870. He lived on the same farm, later buying it, and raised potatoes. He married Martha White Eckles in 1877. Surviving are two daughters Ella and Elizabeth, another daughter Mrs George Hendrickson of Ames, six grandchildren, and one brother D L Jackson of Chicago.
