Changes In Iowa Jobless Laws Considered In Senate

Three bills introduced in the Iowa Senate aim to reform unemployment compensation. Sen. Jacob Mincks proposes ending the one week waiting period, removing dependents from benefit calculations, and gradually raising the average benefit from 31.09 to 50 percent by 1965 to 60 percent by 1967, then two thirds of the base after 1967. Another measure would repeal the rule forcing those unemployed at 62 to take Social Security benefits over jobless pay.
