Truck Fire Spreads Alfalfa Loss Near Bloomfield
A transfer company truck driven by T L Barnes from Ottumwa Ia started a fire along a five mile stretch of highway Saturday night. The blaze burned about 200 acres of alfalfa and clover and four hay ricks owned by Glen Evans and eight stacks on the Hershel Dunfrund farm. Fifty chickens and a goat perished near the scene. The truck carried household goods for Sam Ryan of Ottumwa bound for Farmington Ia. Loss valued at about 4000 dollars. About 200 area residents helped extinguish the fire.
