Children die in car fire near Round Lake
In Round Lake, Al, two children aged 5 and 3 died when the car they slept in caught fire. Their mother Yvonne Walton 30 left them asleep to visit a friend. One child, Mary Lou 9, escaped and helped rescue others. Gary 1 and another child were lightly burned. Police say Walton returned to the car but flames hindered rescue.

In Washington UPI reports the Robert G. Baker trial halted for a recess as Baker defends against charges of stealing Senate campaign funds and evading taxes. He testified that Lyndon B. Cedar Rapids woman charged in stabbing case
Bonnie J. Leenster, 22, was bound over to the Linn County Grand Jury on a Dec. 4 stabbing death in Cedar Rapids. Court testimony from eight witnesses detailed the death of Mrs. Fred Smith after an argument at a party. Leenster was returned to Linn County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bond.

U.S. District Court Judge Edward McManus ordered Leonard Dow a Decorah man to repay 4040.70 to the federal government for Social Security overpayments tied to claims the 69 year old truck hauler and his wife formed a partnership to shift profits.
