The Iowa House and Senate approved an eight million dollar appropriation to finish payments from the state veteran bonus program. The Senate passed the measure 49 to 0. the House vote was 102 to 0. The bill goes to the governor for signature as the program exhausts its fifty million dollar fund.
Prosecutor Graham McGowan says the Mississippi marriage of 12 year old Helen Ford to 26 year old George Ford is void. The couple had wed in Mississippi to avoid Indiana laws. Ford is jailed for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Helen Ford remains in a detention home.
The Junior Chamber of Commerce to discuss the third annual Easter egg hunt at a Monday night meeting led by President Don McClure. The Pines will host the gathering at the scheduled time.

SAN DIEGO UP Butch er Billy Cook signs his name to day on papers clearing him for removal to Oklahoma and trial for the kidnap slaying of a family. He will appear before federal judge Paul J. McCormick to sign the removal order. He waived all hearing on the order and faces transfer to Oklahoma City by a U S marshal as soon as available.

Harry Minor, serving a 21 year term for masked assault since April 1, 1946, was temporarily released from Fort Madison to marry his former wife Hazel Minor at the Santa Fe Methodist parsonage. The wedding, the couple with five children, marked a first for the prison.

The defense department asked Congress to add 100 dollars a month in combat pay for officers and 50 dollars for enlisted personnel retroactive to last June.
