President Hoover and President-Elect Roosevelt plan a Friday morning meeting to bridge the gap on foreign policy and war debt defaults. Hoover believes Roosevelt is ready to cooperate to speed up negotiations, following a prior talks with Secretary of State Stimson.
Joseph Good, 74, died at his East Wayland home after several weeks with heart trouble. Funeral services set for Friday at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church. he is survived by his wife and seven children including four sons in Wayland.
Yesterday evening's sleet and freezing rain left a glaze of ice over outdoor surfaces. Falls on walks and pavements were common, with some vehicles sliding on roads. Businesses and homeowners spread salt and ashes to improve footing, while Iowa Southern Utilities and the telephone company reported only minor line damage.
Nine towns unite for Company K reunion honoring the 1917 border service departure from Fort Des Moines. Des Moines reports the Iowa State Fish and Game Commission distributed 99,661,767 fish across lakes and streams last year. Trout totaled 914,775 with 58,000 fry 847,800 fingerlings and 375 adults as part of an experiment to boost mountain trout fishing in the state. Other game fish distributed included pike bass crappies sunfish bullheads pickerel perch catfish gizzard shad and bluegills totaling 96,442, etc.
Miss Eva Sitelizer reports the death of Mrs FF B Hunt of St Charles Illinois at 66 after a brief illness. She will be buried at St Charles tomorrow afternoon. The Hunt family previously lived on the Hickory Grove farm northeast of Washington. Surviving daughters are Eva Eifie and Bertha.
Kitty Marion, a noted figure in Manhattan's theater district, spent thirteen years selling 99 000 copies of a Birth Control Magazine and is now penniless.
Des Moines Iowa January 18 an immediate conference to ease farm debt burden was proposed by a senate resolution. Senator Hill Floyd county urged Governor Herring to convene a meeting inviting agriculture and insurers to discuss prompt aid. Bills include 500 exemption from general execution for farm heads and limits on foreclosure judgments. A high school reform bill would end state obligation after tenth grade. Senate moves quickly to relieve farm unrest and tax foreclosures.
Mayor John W. Applegate of Washington Iowa proclaims a 21 day legal holiday to curb unrest and protect business interests. The proclamation suspends usual commerce and urges citizens and businesses to use the period to restore confidence in institutions. Dated January 18, 1933.
The bank formed in April 1932 reports being open for business with solid cash reserves. An officer notes over half the deposits are in cash, guarded by deputies, and nine month earnings exceed 6 percent on capital stock added to undivided profits. No withdrawal restrictions have been needed and community confidence remains strong.
The Washington County Taxpayers league changes its weekly meeting from city hall to the courthouse at 7 50 p m Friday evening due to a city hall conflict. An executive committee meeting approved a resolution opposing payment of warrants for indebtedness unlawfully incurred in 1932 from road taxes and requires filing with the county auditor.

The Washington National Bank adopted the holiday plan amid depositor withdrawals as confidence in banking wanes. Officials urge depositors and stockholders to attend a January 19 meeting at 7 30 PM in the high school auditorium to learn details from a representative of the Iowa State Bankers Association.
One more slot machine was picked up yesterday afternoon in addition to eight taken in raids at Wellman, 48 reported yesterday. A machine near a filling station east of Keota was seized and placed with the others in the sheriff's vault. Mrs. Peat Huston of Whitefield and Nick Hahn of Keota were in town.

Opening hours focus on organization and growth meetings led by Truman Herring and state officers.
