Barn Fire Destroys Klopfenstein Farm at Ainsworth
A large barn on the Kermit Klopfenstein farm north of Ainsworth burned early this morning. Firefighters from Ainsworth and Columbus Junction saved the house and nearby buildings while the barn, hay, 12 sows with litters, about 50 feeder pigs, portable hog houses, an augur wagon, and a bulk feed bin were destroyed. A two car garage was scorched but saved. Most losses are believed insured.

Propose enlargement of Louisa refuge
Congressman John R. Schmidhauser announced a plan to enlarge the Mark Twain National Wildlife Refuge in Louisa County by adding 46 acres. The proposal will be submitted to the Migratory Bird Conservation Commission on February 1 and, if approved, purchased under the Migratory Bird Conservation Act of 1929. The expansion would provide a flood resistant headquarters and storage area and enhance waterfowl habitat to complement the existing refuge.

Eight Die In Iowa Weekend Traffic Toll Rises
At least eight people were killed in Iowa traffic accidents over the weekend. The toll for the year reaches 33, seven more than the same period in 1965, with a Jacksonville man added to the toll from earlier injuries. Victims include 13 year olds Douglas Wayne Nixon and Mark Bailey, and 18 year old Steve Power. Refueling Mishap: Bomber and Tanker Crash Off Spain
A US SAC B52 bomber and KC135 tanker collided during midair refueling over Spain’s southeast coast. Four crew members bailed out and were rescued by fishing boats. three including the pilot were hospitalized. Tanker crew status unknown. Wreckage burned for hours as rescuers recovered bodies and assessed debris field. The bomber, from Seymour Johnson AFB North Carolina, and the tanker from Bergstrom AFB Texas, crashed after the collision near Cuevas de Almanatora.
