IOWA CITY The Iowa governorship does not shorten life span with more than half of officeholders reaching over 70. Jacob A. Swisher of the state historical society writes in Palimpsest that a composite Iowa governor averaged 48, a Republican lawyer who served in the legislature before becoming governor.

Wayne Gideon of nine miles northeast of Washington near Bethel Presbyterian church died at 3:30 this morning at his home after two years of illness and recent bronchial pneumonia with heart complications. Funeral at 1:30 Friday at L. A. Jones funeral home with Rev. W. H. Parker officiating. Burial in Elm Grove cemetery. Survived by his widow Eliza Henderson and four children Ernest Ruth May Roxie Longer and two grandchildren. He was a prominent Bethel church member and long-time farmer in Jackson township born in Blount County Tennessee.
