Papers circulated for signatures approve Riley candidacy in the clerk's office. Other documents bear the name Roger Lance of Washington. Three Washington city employees attend a 21 hour traffic engineering course in Burlington sponsored by the University of Iowa Transportation Safety Research Center. Jim Reschly, director of public works, Orville Long, street superintendent, and Jim Hesser, assistant street superintendent, attended the first day of a four week session held at a Burlington motel.

Mezvinsky Announces Thursday Visit to Washington High

Edward Mezvinsky's campaign said the Democratic candidate for Congress from the First District will spend Thursday January 13 in Washington. He plans to meet residents, media members, and students at Washington High School.

Southeast Town Honor Band auditions draw hundreds

About 500 students from Southeastern Iowa will audition at Washington Junior High on Saturday January 15 for the Southeast Town Honor Band Festival. Roughly 150 to 150 will join the High School and Junior High Honor Bands with rehearsals and a 7 30 p m concert at the Junior High Gymnasium led by Dr. Alex Pickard and Jack Oates.

Iowa House OKs strict amusement ride safety bill

The Iowa House approved the first major 1972 legislative measure setting strict safety standards for amusement rides. The bill passed 86 to 10 and moves to the Senate after a series of accidents including two deaths last summer.

Des Moines reports warn that extending full adult rights to 18-year-olds could make Iowa a haven for young drinkers. Red Cross Campaign Plans Discussed by Washington Chapter

Washington County Red Cross campaign plans were outlined at a county chapter board meeting. Robert Siegler outlined the drive to be conducted in outlying towns and rural areas funded by the county Community Chest. Board members agreed to lead campaigns in Ainsworth Brighton Crawfordsville Riverside West Chester Wellman and surrounding townships including Franklin Dutch Creek Lime Creek and Washington. Washington city bids on water system improvements hearing held

Bids were opened Tuesday night as 14 firms bid to install additional water mains to loop the system and three firms bid on a new southeastern water storage tower. Officials will decide next Monday which bids to award with options including older and newer tower designs.

Gov. Robert D. Ray called the six million dollar state share realistic while noting taxpayers may cover about three million if the legislature approves the event. The rest could come from selling the Town State fairgrounds or state land options between Ames and Des Moines.

DeCormier Folk Singers Set for Washington Concert
