Levee Collapses In Indiana After Four Day Fight
The Wabash river breached a major Indiana levee 30 miles above Vincennes after a four day effort by 1000 soldiers and Indiana National Guardsmen. The break flooded over 5500 acres of farmland as residents were evacuated and the crest was forecast to reach 28 feet at Vincennes. Red Cross prepared to evacuate up to 5000 people if the levee failed at the old city.
