Soviet boats shuttle between mother ships and the waterlogged Dyin 200 miles east of northern Japan rescuing 78 passengers stranded more than three days. Rescue details remain sparse as crews work under searchlights amid advancing seas and weather warnings.
New Orleans police sought two remaining gang members after robbing the Hibernia bank's midtown branch of $136000. Three suspects, John Hasselbach 23 Tommy Ricketts 21 and George W Ricketts 23, were arrested within seven hours with about half the loot recovered. C Mills former state senator from 1921 to 1928 launched a Republican bid for lieutenant governor in New Moines. A World War I veteran, he organized the Redfield American Legion division in 1914 and is the first GOP candidate for the post.
Virginia Brooke Wright age 90 died at 114 East 7th Street about 8:30 p m after ill health. Funeral services set for Monday at 2 00 pm at Jones funeral home with Rev Fred Miller officiating and Elm Grove Cemetery burial. She was born June 26 1857 in Washington County PA and lived in Washington 33 years. Survived by two sisters Mrs T J Berdo and Mrs Nellie Mason and one brother Elmer Wright.
Mrs. T I Neff aged 66 died at Mt Pleasant Memorial hospital after admission days earlier. Short services set for 1 30 p m at her late home and 2 50 p m at Cottonwood church with Rev W T Boston and Rev A L Attewood officiating. She was born February 8 1881 near Lowell and taught school before marrying E Nett April 1 1900. Survived by two foster daughters Mary Margaret Carlson and Imogene Lyons and several siblings.
