Court delays assessments as Iowa counties await ruling

Iowa Revenue Director William Forst plans a meeting with the attorney general's office to decide whether to appeal a court order delaying state imposed increases in property valuations for tax purposes. Polk County Judge Gibson Holliday blocked using new valuations in 47 counties and Burlington, saying it would cause a substantial delay in tax collection this year. Forst noted they will consider all remedies, including an appeal, but it may not be appealable.

Fugitive Bryant Captured After Fatal FBI Shootout

Billie Austin Bryant, 29, an accused seven time bank robber and escapee, was found meek and mud-covered in the attic of a Washington apartment. He surrendered after tossing his gun through an attic trap door, hours after two FBI agents, Anthony Palmisano and Edwin Woodriffe, were shot dead outside his estranged wife’s apartment.
