UN counter attack slows Red advance near Wonju Korea
UN forces struck back at Communists in the Wonju area after rear guard fighting south of Seoul. Heavy clashes continued Tuesday night around Wonju as UN troops and Chinese Red forces fought along the eastern bank and southeast toward the Pusan beachhead. An army spokesman said two UN battalions about 2000 men hit the Reds two miles south of Wonju while another 3000 battled six miles southwest of Wonju to regain lost ground.

Ira Amlong Victim of Eye Injury in Accident
Ira Amlong of 1021 East Adama street was taken to University hospital in Iowa City Sunday afternoon after he accidentally shot himself in the eye with a BB gun. Doctors did not know if sight could be saved as hospital reports noted the injury and jammed gun led to the accident.

Desertion sentence handed to Richard Gullion in district court
Richard Gullion was sentenced to one year in Anamosa today after appearing before Judge R. G. Yoder on a charge of desertion. Mr and Mrs Richard Knupp of Ainsworth welcomed a daughter born Sunday at Washington County Hospital and named her Jacoline Rae.

Dr. C. E. Bassler a longtime Ainsworth resident and veterinarian was found dead at 12:50 PM in the slaughter house at the rear of the locker plant.
