With cooperation from diesel engine manufacturers, Iowa State College engineering extension division will offer a three week course in Diesel engine instruction announced by D C Faber instructor in charge.
Primghar Iowa principal John Griffin resigns to pursue a Harvard University scholarship in business administration. He previously served as personnel director at Morningside College.
Funeral services were held for Walter Spooner 54 former resident who died in a Fort Dodge hospital. Spooner was crushed by a hay press on a farm near Bradgate two weeks ago. Physicians amputated his leg in an effort to save his life.
Emmetburg reports 42 year old Louis Chapman of Curlew, an elevator operator, suffered critical injuries when his clothing was caught in an elevator cable and pulled into the shaft.
Iowa City and Coralville town leaders including young mayor Owen Morgan revoke the beer permit of Mrs. Clarence Brauner, saying the town will not be wide open. The action reduces the number of taverns in the suburb from two to one.
Humboldt figure Arthur Parker, longtime abstractor, reports 148 years of service in the community. He plans to continue, soon to be installed as Woodman judge clerk for his 38th consecutive year. Parker served 20 years as city clerk, 34 years in the fire department, and 41 years with the local abstract office.
Iowa City notes that Dr. Carl Anderson of the California Institute of Technology, laureate of the 1936 Nobel Prize in physics, will deliver a lecture at the University of Iowa on January 18.
Reinbeck farmer Russell Lindt keeps 2000 chicks aged one week to two months. From Oct 1 to March 15 he buys 400 day-old chicks every three weeks, raising them to ship to Chicago. Each week 125 broilers average three pounds.
Mrs. Eleanor Mulvaney, widow of late Des Moines attorney John Mulvaney, leaves a 250 dollar trust fund to her seven year old Persian cat described as having a heavy appetite. The will was filed for probate in district court.

County Agent W. J. Roudabush attends a southeastern Iowa conference at Muirfield with county agents and soils conservation committee members to review the federal soils program for 1937. Attending groups will carry home plans and organize township officers for the new year.
City Marshal Blaine Holmes reports a 1936 Plymouth coach owned by Paul Johnson of Fairfield found on Mast Washington street after being reported stolen Tuesday night. The car parked two days, likely abandoned by the thief, who may have brought it from Fairfield to Washington. Sheriff Fred McIntyre and the owner are expected to collect the vehicle for return to Fairfield.
A group of New Market residents filed a court action challenging the legality of the 1936 election in which the town voted to construct a $55,000 municipal light plant.
Mrs Frank Haney traveled to Iowa City yesterday to visit her daughter Edith and plans to proceed to Newton to see another daughter Mrs C C Barnett.

Miss Mary Louise Barnes daughter of Mr and Mrs Harvey Barnes of Crawfordsville was heard as guest soloist Sunday evening January 3 over WBNX New York City. Barnes, music supervisor in Greenwich Conn, continues vocal studies with Harry H Davidson of New York City.
The Trinity Lutheran congregation held its first quarterly meeting after installing new church officers. New officers include Hany Anderson as chairman and elder, Walter Schroeder as treasurer, Edgar A Oetjen as secretary and elder, Alfred Wesaler as elder, Lewis Schroeder and Walter Oetjen serving as finance committee chairman and secretary respectively. The budget balanced last year, a new budget for 1987 was adopted. Lenten services are planned on Wednesday, with Sunday services continued and sunrise services at a.m. time for Easter.

Thomas L Lewis of Iowa City and former Washinton County resident died Thursday on his ninetieth birthday. Born January 7 1847 in Ohio he farmed in the county then lived in West Chester and later Iowa City. Survived by four Iowa City children Howard Burt Gertrude and Edna Hostetter. Funeral Saturday at 1 PM in Iowa City with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Lu Carothers Beroveimer of the Clara Lu and Em trio died in Evanston Hospital from pneumonia. Em is ill with influenza at home. Lu was a native of Mt Pleasant Iowa and had been ill for days before a sudden deterioration yesterday. A separate item notes a planned government air transport monopoly by the Irish Free State.
Mrs. Anna Schneider 104, born in Switzerland, died today in Clinton Iowa believed oldest woman in Iowa. Charles W. Wood 101, with 102nd birthday in six weeks, died today in Alabama where he had lived a long time.
