First food stamps to be sold January 10 in county office

Clarence fire claims three year old as others injured
A fire at the Fremond Frahm family home in Clarence Iowa killed three year old Mary Frahm and injured five other children and the father. Fire officials say the blaze started near an oil burner in the kitchen during 20 degree temps and 40 mph winds. The mother awakened by a child’s cry found the kitchen ablaze. The father made multiple trips into the flames to save his children before being restrained. Mary and several others were hospitalized in Iowa City.

Fire at Keota destroys gas station in explosion
A small explosion sparked a fire that destroyed a gas station in Keota Iowa causing 50 000 to 70 000 dollars in damages. Fire crews from Keota Wellman and Sigourney fought the blaze for 90 minutes until control was gained about 1 45 p m. No injuries were reported as four or five men and two cars were inside the building when the fire began. The station owned by Doug Pearson stood on the west edge of Keota’s business district. Thick smoke hampered efforts and an eyewitness noted the area filled with black smoke.
