Viet Cong Launch Major Offensive Near Saigon
Reports say a strong Viet Cong force centered in the Binh Gia area southeast of Saigon launched a major attack. Intelligence estimates suggested up to 2,000 guerrillas in a heavy jungle operation five miles north of Binh Gia, as Hanoi directed a three front offensive around Saigon. U S officials noted signs of intensified fighting but did not confirm allied shelling of North Vietnam.

Extension District Returns Funds to County Treasurer
The Washington County Extension District returned 353.96 dollars to the County Treasurer on December 31. The amount went into the County General Fund. The Extension Council may carry over half the year’s expenditures into the next year, and this sum was over the legal limit. The carryover supports extension education until new funds arrive, typically in April. Expenses were under budget due to lower staff salaries and travel after a position remained vacant for about a month.

Crash injures students near Kalona factory
