Michael J. Quill and eight other union officers were arrested as the New York subway strike entered its fourth day. Quill, jailed in civil prison after a contempt conviction, vowed to continue the fight and chose not to appeal. A second line of officials was ordered to carry on duties.
Funeral services for Hilton Crim were held today in Iowa City. He was 70, a former meat cutter in Lone Tree and Columbus Junction areas, retiring in 1951. Surviving are two sons Lyle and Dayton, a brother Robert, a sister Nora Shelladay, and three grandchildren. He died Sunday morning after a sudden illness. Burial in Memory Gardens. Rev. Charles Cowell officiated. He lived at 404 Douglas Court, Iowa City, and moved there about two years ago. Born October 5, 1895 in Union Township to George and Margaret Crim.
The Washington Adult Farmer Evening School meets at 7:30 p.m. Thursday January 6 in the Vocational Agriculture room to discuss using insecticides to speed crop and livestock production. Questions focus on safety Western Root Worm soil insecticides and management.
Francis James Duffy 26, Washington service station operator, found dead in a locked D X station north of Mace Motor Co on North Iowa Avenue this morning. He was discovered by a coworker when he arrived for work about 8:30. Dr. E J Vosika, acting medical examiner, ruled death due to carbon monoxide asphyxiation from a running engine in the closed station. officials say accidental. Duffy lived at 514 South Seventh Avenue, Iowa City, born August 4, 1939, married June Walton June 23, 1960, and leaves wife Tammy and Brenda, his two daughters. He was formerly with Nixon Feeds and had operated the station for two months. Funeral Thursday at 2 PM at Jones Funeral Home, burial Elm Grove Cemetery. Surviving: mother Alverda Duffy, Iowa City. brothers Larry and Robert. sister Judy Schwitzer. grandparents Oscar and Mrs. Blair, all of Iowa City.
Edward J Lukavsky 80 of rural Washington died this morning January 4 1966 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after illness since December 18 A prayer service was set for 745 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home Burial will be in Riverside born April 1 1885 near Riverside in Washington County to James and Mary Lukavsky he married Albie Liska April 28 1908 a farmer and member of St James Catholic Church Surviving are his wife six children 25 grandchildren 15 great grandchildren two sisters and one brother
Funeral services for Mrs Amos Christner will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Wayland Mennonite Church. Burial will follow in the Wayland Methodist Cemetery.
Petit jurors not excused must report at 16 a.m. at the courthouse on January 24 for the January term district court. Judge R G Yoder will preside.

Dr Millard Roberts president of Parsons College Fairfield Iowa will be the speaker at a dinner meeting of combined men's brother hoods of Presbyterian churches Monday evening January 10. Dinner at 6 30 followed by the speaking program Roberts attracted national attention since taking over the presidency in 1955 at age 37.
The Washington County Community Action Program moves toward program development after a Mt Pleasant meeting. Four county CAP officers were elected with DeEdwin White of Burlington as president and Byron Thomas as vice president. Washington and neighboring counties explore joining Des Moines and Van Buren to form a regional multi county group as planning continues.
The State Board of Public Instruction approved eight new regional vocational-technical schools and community college districts across Iowa. Sites span Lyon to Cedar and Clinton counties, with several proposed areas awaiting county and district approvals before final action.
The Des Moines School Board voted 5-2 to suspend five students for wearing black arm bands in protest of the Vietnam war. The decision followed a two hour hearing at Des Moines Technical High School with strong turnout. Mary Beth and John Tinker condemned the action as a constitutional rights issue while supporters continued a peaceful fast for Vietnam peace efforts.
The county engineer's office announced Booth and Olson of Sioux City won the bid to pave 4.99 miles of farm to market road between Dublin and Talleyrand with Portland concrete. Bids were opened today in Ames, Iowa and the firm submitted a bid of $138,221.60.
The Washington Co Pork Producers Assn will be honored at the Veterans Auditorium Des Moines January 12 13 for their outstanding pork producers program during 1965. The recognition is part of the 1966 Iowa Pork Industry Conference sponsored by the Iowa Pork Producers Assn and Iowa State University Extension Service.
Partly cloudy in Iowa tonight with colder readings in the north. Wednesday remains partly cloudy with lows from 10 to 15 in the extreme north to near 30 in the south and highs from the 20s in the north to the 40s in the south. Thursday shows little change in the outlook.
City council in Washington meets for the first time in 1966, naming appointive officials, discussing investing idle funds, and approving a plan to buy Cargard to slow rust on city streets while continuing use of ordinary road salt on Highway 92. A January 10 meeting will review objections to last summer’s paving project.
