Big Wheat Shipment Approved for Soviet Trade
The Agriculture Department said it sold 12.9 million bushels of No 2 hard amber durum wheat for 2.50 a bushel FOB East Coast to a private trader, likely Continental Grain Corp, for delivery to the Soviet bloc under an export subsidy bid of 72 to 73 cents per bushel totaling 9.3 million. The sale saves storage costs and may reflect government help with shipping costs, a longtime barrier to US Soviet wheat deals.
