A strange girl was taunted last evening in an incident described as a brutal harassment. Police were called as bystanders witnessed the confrontation and a nearby crowd separated the parties.

A citizen intervened, the girl sought protection at the Rock Island depot, and later she was confined in the county jail awaiting a vagrancy hearing. Miss Dade Shearer entertained friends with a novelty party last night. Guests brought baby photos and prizes were awarded for best identification. Attendees included Miss Ollie Maxwell, Miss Anna Wells, Miss Cora Smeltzer, Miss Myrtle Sage, Miss Kate Smith, Miss Helne Lewis, Miss Titla Shields, and Messrs Ortus F Adams, John Springer, and Walter Wilson.
The injured Demorest child was taken to Mrs. Morehouse for care, while the mother, overwhelmed by strain, was moved to Sheriff Teeter’s home. The two step-sons have left, leaving Demorest and the shooter in the house, described as a sweet child needing good care. The Presbyterian church announces morning and evening services with topics A Goodly Land and Waiting for the Promise.
A southeast of the city social last evening at Mr and Mrs John Kephart attracted about one hundred guests. The event featured an oyster supper and attachments with several Columbus Junction residents in attendance.
