A man posing as a traveling relative visited Mrs. B. F. Crail in Fairfield en route to Rochester Minnesota for his wife’s surgery. After losing his purse in Burlington he hitchhiked to Fairfield and produced 3.59 dollars to pay for a trip to Washington. He vanished before reaching the depot, with officers now investigating the encounter.
Des Moines reports the Citizenship Committee of Mothers and Daughters of Iowa announced a local option plan appointing key women and county committees to push state liquor reform. The campaign aims to mobilize support across all sections ahead of the January 14 legislature opening, led by state chairman Mrs A B Sargent.

The 1924 sensational Davenport case involved Joe Palmer the Texas killer who abducted policeman Elmer Schlueter Dr W H Fitch Watcott the veterinarian and Al Bebulize Davenport baseball club secretary on June 14. Palmer later escaped July 22 blasting his way out of a car prison cell and remains uncaptured.

A New London man, Walter Martin, escaped with a minor knee injury after his truck collided with a freight train at the Olds crossing. He apparently failed to see the train and braked too late, leaving the truck nearly demolished and the train badly damaged.

Warrants mailed to aged assistance recipients cover November December January. Total applications statewide reach 55,000 with 28,686 investigations and 19,200 accepted. Collections total $1,004,429, about 68.8 percent of eligible. The commission seeks legislation to tighten or raise revenue.
Des Moines report shows $12,635.96 in delinquent penalties collected since the drive to enforce payment began. Fred Ray, director of the state board of assessment and review sales tax division, announced the figure.
Washington county board approves reopening Grace Hill quarry as emergency relief work funded by state. Project headed to Des Moines for final engineer approval with start expected this month. Quarry will employ about 86 part time relief workers five days weekly for road surfacing.
Mrs. Victor Anderson of Melwein Iowa died in Chicago Loop on January 1 from a heart attack while shopping. The death occurred in the Loop area as she was out shopping with no further details provided.

Mrs. Catherine Briscoe, 51, a socially prominent Baltimore resident, died from a metal slug driven into her chest. Pye and her maid were with her.

The auditor allegedly refused to deliver a ballot to an absent voter and the overseer allegedly pressured a voter to cast a democratic ballot under threat of losing county aid.
The Senate banking and currency committee considers an inquiry into alleged waste connected with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Senator Carter Glass of Virginia backs the push as the discussion starts in Washington.
