Farmer Killed When Limb Falls in Tree Cutting
Newton area farmer John De Hoet about 50 was fatally injured when a heavy limb broke from a tree he was cutting near his home, striking him and causing a fractured skull. He died soon after the accident occurred about 12 miles northeast of Newton.

Wellman Girl Wins Ten Dollar Movie Award
Miss Helen Kehoe of Wellman, 15, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Kehoe, was named a national contest winner. She received 106 dollars in cash at the Grand Theater in Wellman as part of a drive to promote public interest in motion pictures and players. Rules That Legion's Lottery Plan Is Illegal
Des Moines The state attorney general office ruled that a Humboldt American Legion plan for giving away an automobile through a ticket selling scheme is an illegal lottery under Iowa law. Assistant Attorney General Jens Goethe said all such schemes are lotteries and this was vicious because the winning numbers were known to operators before any tickets were sold.
