Cat Gives Birth On Telephone Pole In Pittsburgh
In Pittsburgh a cat perched 35 feet high atop a telephone pole for days giving birth to two kittens while weather battered it. UPI photographer Jim Herrmann and retiree John Burgess rescued the cat by lowering it in a box. the two kittens on the pole reportedly died. Neighbor Mike Adrian, eight, claimed the cat as his own and fed it milk after its rescue.

Luvertie May Carter died at 7 30 pm Sunday at her sister’s home in Richland after several days illness. Funeral services are set for 2 pm Tuesday at Ollie Methodist Church with Rev. Frederic Harris officiating. Goulds Funeral Home of Richland handles arrangements. Born April 11 1885 near Ollie she was the daughter of Isaac and Matilda Carter. She resided with brother David near Ollie and is survived by brother Lawrence of Ollie and sister Mrs Jenkins.

The tuberculosis skin test follow up in Washington County schools has begun this week. Follow up tests occur today in Wellman and were completed last week in Riverside. Readings in Wellman are scheduled March 2 from 4 to 5 30 p.m. and 6 30 to 7 30 p.m. at the community building. Washington tests are Wednesday March 1 from 4 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. at the home making parlor at the south door of the high school. Results will be checked Friday March 3 from 4 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. The x ray unit comes to Showdown for reactors in Wellman March 14 from 8 30 to 10 30 a m and at the Washington high school from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. No charge for x rays. funded by Christmas TB seal sales. Three Weekend Crashes Leave Washington County Battered
A Wellman youth hospitalized in Iowa City and three cars demolished marked a weekend of crashes in Washington County. Keith Litwiller and Marvin Stoltzfus collided on a bridge near Wellman, Litwiller accused of improper passing. Stoltzfus suffered a broken collarbone and facial lacerations. A 20 year old prisoner from Anamosa Men's Reformatory and 19 year old nurse's aide Carolyn Schott disappeared from the University of Iowa Hospitals on Sunday night.
