Somerset County Judge Samuel Chiaravalli upheld the conviction of Myron Wenglyn a rural mail carrier from New Center New Jersey fined 12 dollars for driving from the right side of the front seat when stopping at mailboxes.
White House press secretary Hagerty said Eisenhower probably will hold a news conference Wednesday to announce his decision on a second term. He would not confirm timing or whether the announcement would follow the stock market close and noted no public clue has emerged since his Georgia vacation.
President Eisenhower allegedly instructed Defense Secretary Wilson to accelerate the U S ballistic missile program and to appoint a guided missile czar. The claim cites a letter and a Miami Beach briefing as potential signs of a shift in missile policy amid Russia’s gains. Senator Jackson accuses Air Secretary Quarles of downplaying ballistic missiles to dampen shock if Russia advances.

Four persons were killed in Iowa auto accidents over the weekend, boosting the state highway death toll to 108 for the period. William Rostello 13 of Pleasant Valley died when his bicycle was struck on US 67 west of town. Ted Vosburg 18 of Granville died from a crash on Iowa 10 east of Granville. Otto George Nieting 48 near Pomeroy and Davyl Dean Nereim 20 of Slater died Friday night in separate mishaps.
Miss Carolyn Holland daughter of Mr and Mrs Lee Holland of 600 South Second Avenue and a Coe College junior Cedar Rapids Iowa has been chosen by Kappa Delta to be their candidate for 1956 Military Ball queen The queen will be chosen from six candidates by AFROTC cadets at Doe on March 5 and will reign over the Military Ball March 16.

Don Hise has announced for Des Moines. On the Democratic side Ed Fitzgerald and Don Wilson have filed papers.
Sen Estes Kefauver said the Senate farm bill is a vast improvement over current policy and would provide immediate relief with 9 percent parity for basic crops. He criticized administration handling, urged amendments, and announced a speech in Sigourney, Iowa. He warned the farm issue will be central in the coming campaign and urged using surpluses as strategic reserves. He backed food stamps and expanded school lunches and linked agriculture to foreign policy. He planned to drive to Sigourney this afternoon.

Final arrangements for the annual Jaycee Style and Trade Show in the Washington armory were completed today. The two day event runs Tuesday and Wednesday evenings March 13 and 14 with a style show at 8 p.m. featuring Washington merchants and a later program with WMT TV personalities Bob Moran Sunny Sue and Uncle Elmer.
Three Washington High School band students Richard Winga Dan Kiesey and Ann Peterson attended the Tall Corn conference for music teachers and students at Iowa State Teachers College Cedar Falls. Others John Peterson Steve Jones along with Mrs A C Peterson and Director Melvin Hill drove to the event. On Friday they saw a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta and Saturday featured class demonstrations followed by a concert in the afternoon.
Washington public school bands will perform in a combined concert Thursday evening March 1 in the high school gymnasium. Director Melvin Hill notes the event was postponed from Tuesday. The program opens at 745 p.m. with grade school bands under Irvan Rich, followed by the 40 piece junior high band and the 75 piece high school concert band.
John Sill 33, a Hopkinton farmer renting 100 acres and farming 14 years, was named Iowa's outstanding young farmer of 1955 by the Iowa Junior Chamber of Commerce. He will represent Iowa April 11-12 with two runners up at the national contest in Pittsburgh. Lawrence Everett and Robert W. Bell finished second and third respectively, with Everett renting 240 acres near New Sharon and Bell 161 acres near Coggan.

Mrs. George Turner of Washington was seriously hurt Saturday night when she jumped from a car returning from Fairfield. The vehicle, four and a half miles north of Fairfield on highway 1, stopped and she was taken to Fairfield Hospital then to University Hospital in Iowa City with a severe neck gash a broken jaw and possible additional fractures.
Snow and cold air collide across Iowa ending springlike warmth. Central and southern Iowa saw 50s Sunday as north winds push south. 2 to 4 inches of snow expected in the southeast tonight. Northwest Iowa dipped near zero with statewide lows near zero to 5 above.

St Louis cancer expert Dr. Evarts A. Graham announced evidence that heavy cigarette smoking causes cancer, especially after age 45. He cited experiments showing tar-induced cancer in mice and rabbits, and described a half-life cycle where cancer emerges after prolonged exposure. He received a 1955 medical service award.

Tuesday brings partly cloudy east and mostly cloudy west with temperatures from 10 below to 5 above in the south. Highs reach 12 to 20 in the northeast and 25 to 32 in the southwest.
