Members of the Iowa House introduced 46 individual bills before recess on Sunday and then joined the Senate in returning to their constituencies for a week. The legislature, per tradition, is now in recess and will resume lawmaking on March 3.
Five Iowans bound over to the federal grand jury charged with theft from an interstate shipment after a Hartley area truck overturned on January 20. G R Epping Harry Hebbel Harold A Riedemann Leo Earl Green and Arno Moore all near Wartley faced U S Commissioner J W Hubbard in Sioux City. About 205 cases of whisky disappeared from the load en route from Lawrenceburg Indiana to Brown and Jewett Drug Co Sioux Falls and Aberdeen SD.
Gov. Rourke B. Hickenlooper announced a Des Moines manpower and production conference on March 15. The meeting aims to address threats of reduced production and possible food shortages, inviting 12 corn belt states and top federal officials including Claude Wickard Paul McNutt and Donald Nelson.

Harold Reeves of Cedar Rapids will sing a solo during the Presbyterian church morning worship tomorrow. Reeves, blind for many years, has performed for Washington audiences and appeared as a soloist in Christmas and Easter programs. He has long served as soloist at Cedar Rapids Methodist church.
The county selective service board reports 382 men placed in 7-US agricultural deferment and 421 in 4-C for married farmers with children, totaling 803 county men deferred for food production. An additional 16 in 1-A and 1 in 1-B remain, with 1-C and 2-A to follow as induction progresses, plus about 400 men who enlisted by other channels, bringing roughly 1,500 Washington county men in the armed forces.
Everett Teets 47 of Kalona died about four o clock yesterday from a paralytic stroke at his home. Funeral plans by L A Jones Washington are awaiting word from his son Corporal Doyle Teets in California. He leaves Fern Reeves his wife and Corporal Teets in the U S Army along with eight siblings and many relatives.

Chairman G B Mace of the Washington county war bond committee adds nine more names to the payroll pledgers list. Local businesses and institutions pledge ten percent or more of income to war bonds this year, including Casey's cafe, court house offices, W F Jurging & Son, L A Jones funeral home, F L Stewart hardware store, Armour and Company, Carris Manufacturing, Willits garage, and Mace Motor Company.
It seems likely the tally will exceed 7,000 as Washington residents sign up for the new rationing system starting next week. Registrations to date reach 6,498 with a deadline this evening at high school stations from seven to nine. Yesterday saw 474 family units and 1,291 individuals registered.

The census bureau reports civilian populations increased in all Iowa metropolitan areas between April 1, 1940 and May 1, 1942 except Woodbury. It notes wartime enlistment and migration to war industries affected figures with Washington County listing 20 234 civilians on May 1 1942 against 20 055 on April 1 1940.
The Iowa Office of Price Administration filed injunction action to restrain the Spencer Packing Co. of Spencer from illegal slaughter of meat. It alleges since Oct 1 the firm slaughtered cattle calves and hogs and sold meat above its quota.
