Painting show brightens library gallery in Washington
Don Jones, longtime Ainsworth resident turned art teacher at Highland High, opens a two style oil exhibit at the Washington Public Library Helen Wilson gallery. A private reception drew seventy five guests and prompted an extended two week run as enthusiasm favors the artist.

Real estate tax delay announced for Washington County
Washington County real estate and personal property taxes will be postponed to about April 1 per Treasurer Wallace Fagen. Penalties on these taxes start 90 days after collections begin. Special city street and sewer assessments are due now with penalties beginning April 1. The elementary solo winners Karen Kessener and Rhonda Stalder, both from Washington, earned Division I honors for clarinet solos. Mrs. Gary Murphy also participated as a contest entrant. Town Arts Council sponsors artist in residence John Vruwink at Highland High School on Thursday February 28, with an evening session for the public at 7 p.m. Vruwink, art professor at Central College, is a recognized Midwestern potter. Weather outlook is fair to partly cloudy and warmer, with tonight's lows around 30 and Wednesday highs 45 to 50. South winds 12 to 22 mph this afternoon, SW 10 to 15 mph tonight.

The Washington Concert Association launches a Tuesday March 5 to March 12 membership drive led by Virginia Tschantz with a kickoff dinner at Captain's Table for over 65 volunteers. New members gain access to the March 16 dual piano concert Weekly and Arganbright and the four 1974 75 season concerts. Kathy Marek a junior sociology major at Iowa State University will take part in a 40 hour charity dance marathon in Ames from March 15 to 17. Sponsored by Beta Sigma Phi the event gathers 35 ISU couples to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Kathy and partner are sponsored by Kilbourne House with a goal of ten dollars per pledge and a pledge drive across Washington and Ames.

Expansion planned at United Presbyterian Home to ease nursing shortage
The United Presbyterian Home in Washington will begin a summer 1974 project to add a 36 bed nursing care unit on the campus. A May fund drive aims to raise 400000, plus earlier bequests of over 150000, to fund construction and related facilities. The board notes space constraints and aging standards as drivers, with the new unit designed by Lindgren and Taylor and expected to serve 19 current health center patients and future residents across the 40 acre campus.
