President Roosevelt vetoed the 50 million seed loan bill saying it would stress the federal budget. He noted prior acceptable measures in 1934 and 1935 and said additional taxes would be required to cover new crop loans not included in the fiscal plan for 1936 and 1937.
Newton column reports a Baxter farmer Carl Schmidt was kicked by a lame horse, breaking his right hand. The writer ponders what might have happened if the horse had good legs.
Mr and Mrs Milton Stoller and four children living in Waterloo for nearly five years have not been deemed residents there by a court and are ordered removed to Newton. The Sotlers resisted prior removal efforts and Jasper county authorities at Newton recognize the family as residents of that county.
H Ridge, brakeman on Rock Island passenger train No 61 from Cedar Rapids, fell from the vestibule south of Nichols and died instantly. He suffered a broken neck and skull fractures. The body was found near the roadbed by train No 62 crew near West Liberty and taken to Cedar Rapids. No inquest.
Twenty five men received suspended sentences of 30 days each on charges of spearing fish. Game wardens said hundreds fled when officers arrived. Those arrested were late arrivals who didn’t spot the wardens on time.
State employees at the former Ames school building reported tear gas was effective during a test by the board of control. A tear gas shell exploded and gas permeated the building forcing some workers outside for a moment. J. J. Lynch described the odor as rubber burning before the gas affected their eyes.
E. D. Nordstrom, former Winfield banker, started a five year sentence for making false entry in bank records. He was taken to Fort Madison peniten tiary by Sheriff Manning Cline of Henry county to begin serving the term.
Des Moines report says Scott Sias of Fontanelle won release from Fort Madison penitentiary to stay by his dying mother's side. Sias had only days left of a one year sentence for driving while intoxicated when Governor Herring ordered the release after his father appealed to him.
Cedar Rapids Chief of Detectives Karl Stanley and Detectives Condon Kudina and Haberle raided the Fifth Avenue pharmacy. They located a soda fountain chamber marked sarsaparilia and confiscated half a gallon of alcohol.
A group of 25 Muscatine men applied Monday for a new Y's Men’s Club charter affiliated with the International Y's Men’s clubs. A nine‑man delegation presented the invitation at a Muscatine dinner meeting, temporary officers were elected, and a follow up meeting is set in Moline tomorrow night. Participants included Ted Brown Harold Nissen John Lemmon Clarence Logan Robert McFarlane Roger Sherman Dr. Dwyer Dunham Morrison and Lewis Warren. G A Hagreen of McLellan store was a guest at the last Y's Men’s dinner.

Des Moines reports continued snow and rain with no flood danger despite fears on smaller rivers. Federal meteorologist Charles D. Reed notes colder tonight and improving conditions. Rain in Washington m by last night measured 0.58 inches as snow melts and temperatures reach 47 degrees above zero.

Governor Clyde Herring announces Iowa will receive 548100 from the National Special Security Board for Old Age pension assistance in February and March. The funds will add 6900 recipients to the 17000 already receiving checks, making Iowa the first and largest state to obtain this federal support.
Mrs. Mary Butterbaugh of Wellman died at 5 30 am after more than a month of illness from arterial trouble. Born Mary Ann Whetstine December 16 1881 she married Clyde B Butterbaugh June 3 1901. Surviving children are four daughters two sons fourteen grandchildren and one brother and sister are deceased. Funeral Friday 2 pm Pleasant Hill church burial Pleasant Hill cemetery.
Henry Aggison sustained a fractured skull after falling on ice and striking the back of his head. E C Jones Lewis Kehoe and Laurence Fleming were in Des Moines on business yesterday. Roy Buckwalter buys out partner Orlo Green to take over Green Buckwalter garage. Cordelle Braden remains ill with condition unchanged.
Des Moines reports Governor Herring refused to grant a reprieve for Art Breeding, the Red Oak wife killer sentenced to hang on April 27, after a clemency hearing.
Arrangements are made for a speech by Japanese religious leader Kagawa to be broadcast over Station WSUI at eight o'clock tonight in Iowa City with the address delivered.
An air line ruptured 12 feet underground at Grinnell city water works causing $1500 in damage. Broken pipe and frozen ground hurled debris, shattering nearby windows and damaging building roofs.
George Freest Garwin explains why he abandoned the practice of using a hot brick to warm his feet in bed. A blaze started at the foot of his bed woke him and destroyed bedding, but he escaped injury.

Harred claimed he and Art Williams of Georgetown British Guiana flew into the jungle and found Redfern living with a native tribe. Williams denied knowing Hare red, saying he had no recollection of the alleged meeting or the child.
A Baltimore and Ohio freight train derailed near Vincennes Indiana killing seven unidentified transients and seriously injuring two others. The nine men were riding the locomotive when 16 cars toppled and telescoped the lead car.
Frank Lewis aged 62 died when his deafness prevented him from hearing an approaching train as he walked along the railroad track near Cedar Falls Iowa on February 26.
