Police report a fourth home, that of Dr. and Mrs. George Krogmeier, burglarized in an early morning break in. Another three homes were entered Tuesday with one home owner awakened by a barking dog. Moisture totals 0.89 inch for Feb 14 to 21, prompting hope for near normal rainfall as farmers plan for the next crop season.
The Iowa Employment Security Commission resisted federal pressure to waive bidding for a $1.2 million pilot to provide job matching via 17 terminals linked to a Des Moines central computer. Governor Ray supported the commission, which began bidding for terminals and aims to award a contract in May with federal delays noted.
Phil Dorr will star in Alpha Omega Players Heroes and Hard Cases at Washington United Presbyterian Church. The 6:30 p.m. dinner theater in the fellowship hall costs 3.50 dollars. Dorr, in his first year with the group, grew up in the Middle East and studied in Lebanon Egypt and Israel.
Jazz saxophonist Joe Farrell will headline Washington High School annual Jazz Festival on Saturday March 6 with over 30 bands performing in morning and afternoon sessions. Sectional clinics and a final evening concert will accompany ticketed events priced 2 dollars for adults and 1.5 for students.
Iowa Governor Robert D. Ray urged Senate Budget Committee members to keep federal revenue sharing and block grants, arguing state and local governments can deliver better services with fewer burdensome rules. A Senate appropriations subcommittee approved a 238.1 million dollar education budget for Iowa. President Ford edged Reagan by about 1 000 votes as Carter led a crowded Democratic field in New Hampshire. Ford claimed a springboard to the White House with 98 percent of votes counted and 19 of 21 GOP delegates. Carter led Udall Bayh Harris and Shriver in the Democratic tally with plans for a quick convention decision.

Governor Robert Ray of Iowa will address the Washington County Republican convention Saturday night February 28 at the courthouse about 9 p.m. The event opens at 8 p.m. with 76 delegates elected in January to vote on a county issues platform and to choose delegates to district and state conventions.
Ivor K. Koch mayor of What Cheer and What Cheer native announces bid for the Republican nomination in Iowa House District 88 to face incumbent Democrat Keith Dunton of Thornburg. Koch, 45, promotes an activist campaign to involve voters and discuss issues while pledging to differ with opponents when appropriate. He is a florist, former city councilman, mayor since 1975, and active in numerous civic and professional groups in Keokuk and Washington counties.
