A fire at Simon Muller's Kalona horse barn destroyed the main stable and outbuildings, killing Jubilee the world champion hackney stallion valued over $20,000 and twelve other horses. March draft quota cut by about ten thousand

Omaha businessmen survive Des Moines plane crash
Four Omaha executives led by Peter Kiewit escaped injury when their jet failed to lift off at Des Moines Municipal Airport. A. F. Jacobson, Clifford L. Sampson, and Gilbert G. Swanson were aboard with Kiewit. pilots Victor Kitts and Leland Strecker suffered back injuries but were listed in satisfactory condition. FAA said all four leaders were shaken but unharmed.
